1.Scope
This Acceptable Use Policy is part of our Terms of Service. It applies to every business that uses JULY Call, to its authorized users and to anyone who uses the Service through them (“you”). It sits alongside our Messaging and Outreach Policy, which sets the detailed rules for calls and messages. If you are unsure whether a use is allowed, ask us at support@july.ca before you start.
2.Unlawful, harmful or deceptive use
You must not use JULY Call to:
- break any law or regulation, or help anyone else do so;
- defraud, scam or phish anyone, or collect information under false pretences;
- make false, misleading or deceptive statements, including about prices, offers, identity or urgency;
- harass, threaten, bully, stalk or intimidate anyone, or send hateful, violent or obscene content;
- discriminate against anyone on grounds protected by human-rights law;
- defame anyone, or infringe anyone’s intellectual property, privacy or other rights; or
- send malware or links to malicious or deceptive sites.
3.Calls and messages
You must not:
- call, text, WhatsApp or email anyone without the consent or other lawful basis the law requires, or after they have opted out;
- make automated or AI calls to sell or promote something without the person’s express prior consent;
- use purchased, rented, scraped, harvested or shared lists, or contact information you were not allowed to collect or use;
- use random or sequential dialing, or call emergency lines, health-care facilities or numbers you have no right to call;
- call numbers on the National Do Not Call List or the US National Do Not Call Registry unless an exemption applies;
- contact people outside the permitted hours in their local time, or more often than the law or your consent allows;
- hide or misstate who you are, your mailing address or why you are calling, or display a caller ID you do not own or control or where you cannot be reached;
- ignore or delay STOP, unsubscribe or do-not-call requests, or ask people to confirm an opt-out in a way that makes it harder;
- use number rotation, many sending numbers or similar tricks to avoid carrier filtering or limits; or
- send content that carriers or platforms prohibit for business messaging, such as sexual content, hate speech, or the promotion of illegal drugs, firearms or tobacco where it is not allowed.
4.Honesty about AI and impersonation
You must not:
- instruct the assistant to say it is a person, or set a greeting that hides that callers are speaking with a virtual assistant;
- remove, shorten or weaken the recording notice or the assistant’s identification;
- impersonate any person, business, government body, election authority or JULY, or use a voice that imitates a real person without their consent; or
- set up the assistant to give legal, medical, financial, tax, immigration or other professional advice, or to promise outcomes.
5.Sensitive information
You must not use JULY Call, by voice, text, chat or email, to ask for or collect:
- payment card numbers, security codes or bank account details;
- social insurance numbers, social security numbers, health-card numbers, passport numbers or driver’s licence numbers;
- passwords, PINs or other credentials; or
- health information that requires a HIPAA business associate agreement or safeguards the Service does not provide, such as diagnoses or test results.
6.Prohibited and restricted businesses
You must not use JULY Call for:
- debt collection;
- high-risk financial offers, including payday or high-interest loans, debt relief or credit repair, cryptocurrency or other speculative investment promotions, unregistered securities and “get rich quick” schemes;
- adult or sexual content or services;
- weapons, firearms, ammunition or explosives;
- gambling, betting or lotteries, where they are unlawful or are not licensed;
- illegal drugs, and cannabis, tobacco or vaping products where their promotion is restricted;
- counterfeit goods, multi-level marketing or pyramid schemes; or
- emergency or life-safety services, such as alarm monitoring, crisis lines or anything that replaces 9-1-1.
We may add to this list, or approve a restricted use in writing on conditions we set.
7.Political use
Political parties, candidates, campaigns and elected officials’ offices may use JULY Call only as our Messaging and Outreach Policy allows: with the Voter Contact Registry registration and identification the law requires, within calling hours, without WhatsApp (Meta does not allow political use of its business platform), and never to mislead voters, impersonate anyone or discourage anyone from voting.
8.Protecting the platform
You must not:
- copy, modify, decompile, reverse-engineer or create derivative works of the Service, except as the law expressly allows;
- try to extract the Service’s prompts, instructions, models or source code, including by manipulating the assistant;
- access, or try to access, another business’s data, or any part of the Service you are not authorized to use;
- probe, scan or test the Service’s security, or run load, stress or penetration tests, without our written permission;
- get around usage limits, rate limits, demo limits, caps, billing or security controls;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service, its networks or other users, or overload it;
- scrape the Service, or create accounts by automated means;
- resell, sublicense or provide the Service to others, or use it to build a competing product, without our written agreement; or
- share logins, or use our live demos with a phone number that is not yours.
9.Consequences
If we believe this policy has been breached, we may, without notice and without liability:
- investigate, and ask you for information, including proof of consent;
- remove or disable content, pause or stop campaigns, calls and messages, and block or release numbers;
- suspend or close your account;
- report unlawful activity to carriers, platforms, regulators or law enforcement, and cooperate with them; and
- recover from you any fines, fees or charges that carriers, platforms or regulators impose because of your use.
We do not refund Fees because of action we take under this policy. You remain responsible for your use, as our Terms of Service provide.
10.Reporting abuse
To report misuse of JULY Call, including an unwanted call or message from a JULY Call line, email support@july.ca with the number that contacted you and the date and time.
